WHAT PERSONAL TRAINING LOOKS LIKE HERE
Personal training at AW is about much more than what happens during your session.
You’ll have a strength-based programme built around your body, your goals and your individual needs, with your coach adapting your training as you progress.
We also look at what might be happening beyond the gym. Your “homework” might be a physical exercise to build strength in an area you’re working on, or it might involve exploring the mental and emotional blocks that are making your goals harder to reach. Nutritional support is also tailored to you and your history, rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach.
And you’re never left to simply get on with it. Your coach will review your progress with you every 6–8 weeks, while our founder Alma meets with you at 3, 6, 10 and 12 months to look at your goals, your experience and whether anything needs to change.
It’s personalised coaching with ongoing support, accountability and room to evolve. Because we’re not just interested in helping you complete a programme.
We want to understand what you need to thrive, and help you build a relationship with movement that can actually last.
WHO THIS IS FOR
AW is for women who want to get stronger, feel better and build a healthier relationship with movement, without the pressure, judgement or intimidation that can come with traditional gyms.
Maybe you’ve tried gyms before and never felt comfortable. Maybe you’ve started and stopped exercise more times than you can count. Maybe you know you want to get stronger, but walking into a busy gym and figuring out what to do feels overwhelming.
Maybe your body or circumstances have changed and you’re not sure how to exercise in a way that works for you now. You might be navigating menopause, returning to exercise after pregnancy, managing an injury or health condition, rebuilding confidence in your body, or simply wanting a coach who sees you as a whole person rather than a set of measurements.
You don’t need to be fit, confident or experienced to join us. You don’t need to know how to lift weights. And you don’t need to have a specific body or weight loss goal.
We meet you where you are, understand what you need and build from there.
If traditional gyms have never felt like they were made for you, AW might be different.
No pressure. Just a conversation about what you're looking for.
Maybe you've tried gyms before.
And maybe they just didn't work for you.
You don't feel comfortable walking into a busy gym and figuring out what to do.
You start exercising, but life gets busy and your routine falls apart. Then you feel like you've failed and have to start all over again.
You might feel self-conscious around other people, unsure of how to use weights, or uncomfortable with the pressure to change the way your body looks.
Or perhaps your body has changed, your circumstances have changed, and the way you used to exercise simply doesn't work for you anymore.
We don't believe you need more discipline, more pressure or another plan to follow perfectly.
We believe you need the right environment, a coach who understands you and an approach that can adapt when life does.
That's why we created AW.
why aw?
Strength training is what we do. Helping women feel safe, supported and confident while doing it is what makes us different.
Women-only
Our studio is designed exclusively for women. No crowded gym floor, no feeling watched and no pressure to fit into a space that doesn't feel right for you.
Trauma-informed
We recognise that past experiences can influence how you feel about exercise, your body and being in gym environments. Our coaching prioritises choice, autonomy, clear communication and meeting you where you are.
Truly personalised
No generic programmes. Your training is built around your goals, your body, your lifestyle and your starting point, then adapted as you progress.
Consistent support
You'll work with the same coach, on the same day and at the same time each week. Between sessions, you'll have access to your coach through our app for guidance, accountability and support.
More than a workout
Strength training is at the heart of what we do, but we also look at the bigger picture. Together we'll explore the habits, mindset, routines and obstacles that influence your progress, helping you create changes that feel realistic and sustainable.
Built for women who haven't felt at home in traditional fitness spaces
Many of our members come to us after years of starting and stopping, feeling intimidated in gyms or believing exercise simply wasn't for them. Our job isn't to change who you are. It's to help you discover what's possible when you're supported in the right environment.
how it works
1. Book your consultation
It all starts with a consultation with Alma, our founder. This is a proper deep dive into you, not just your fitness goals. We’ll talk about your history, your relationship with exercise, what you want to achieve, what might have got in the way in the past and what you need from your coaching experience.
2. We match you with your coach
Alma personally matches you with the coach she feels is the right fit for you. Everything you’ve shared is documented and passed directly to your coach, so you don’t have to keep repeating your story.
3. Get connected before you start
Your coach will introduce themselves and check in with you through our app before your first session. This gives you a space to ask questions, get to know your coach and feel comfortable before you even walk through the door.
4. Your first session
Your first session is intentionally more relaxed. You’ll recap your goals with your coach, talk through the system you’ll use to work towards them and agree on a realistic timeline. Your coach will then take you through a movement screen to understand how your body moves and identify anything that needs to be considered when designing your programme.
5. Your programme is built around you
Using everything from your consultation and movement screen, your coach creates your personalised strength programme. Your training is built around your body, your goals, your experience and your life, rather than putting you into a generic programme.
6. Your training is taken care of.
You choose your day and time at your consultation. We'll book your sessions in advance, and you'll work with the same coach at the same time each week. That consistency helps you build a routine, develop trust with your coach and make training a sustainable part of your life.
A different kind of gym
Our studio is small, private and women-only, just a 3-minute walk from Seven Sisters Station in Tottenham.
There’s no huge gym floor, crowded weights area or intimidating rows of equipment.
It’s a calm, welcoming space where your coach knows your name, understands your goals and is there to support you.
Come as you are. We'll take it from there.

FAQ
What happens during the free consultation?
You'll speak directly with Alma, our founder. We'll spend time understanding your goals, your history with exercise, what you're looking for and whether AW is the right fit for you. We'll explain how our PT works, talk you through pricing and availability, and answer any questions you have. There's no obligation to join.
Do I have to commit to a year?
No. We ask for a minimum commitment of 3 months, but we recommend thinking about your journey over a longer period of time. If you’ve struggled with keeping a routine or have had a stop-start relationship with exercise, lasting change doesn’t happen overnight. A longer-term programme gives you the time to build strength, confidence and the tools to navigate the things that inevitably get in the way, whether that’s work, family, health, stress or changes in your life.
Your coach will be with you throughout that process, helping you adapt rather than simply starting again every time life gets difficult. After your first 3 months, you can continue with private coaching or move into our classes.
Do you offer discounts?
Yes. We offer 10–20% off for women who join us on longer-term memberships.
How often should I be training?
For most women, we recommend working towards 3 strength sessions per week. Your coach will help you find a level of training that is realistic for you rather than expecting you to fit your life around exercise.
Can I train in the gym on my own?
AW is a personal training and class studio, rather than an open gym, so we don’t offer independent gym access. If you’d like to do additional training between your sessions, your coach can provide you with a programme to follow at home or in another gym. Most of our PT members add a class membership so they can get additional guided training at AW.
I have an injury or a health condition. Can I still train?
Your initial consultation gives us the opportunity to understand your history, current needs and any limitations before deciding how best to approach your training. We’ll work within your capabilities and adapt exercises where needed. If something requires input from a medical or healthcare professional, we’ll always prioritise that. You don’t need to arrive feeling like your body is already “ready” for exercise. That’s part of what we’re here to help you with.
I’m a beginner, do I have to be fit to join?
Absolutely not. Many of our members start with little or no experience of strength training, and some haven’t exercised regularly since school. You don’t need to know how to lift weights, understand gym equipment or feel confident walking into a gym. We meet you where you’re at and build from there.
What happens when I first join?
You’ll start with a consultation where we get to know you, your goals, your history and what you need from your training. This helps your coach understand the whole picture before creating your programme. From there, we’ll introduce you to strength training at a pace that feels appropriate for you and build your confidence as you go.
What if I’ve never felt comfortable in a gym before?
You’re exactly the kind of woman we created AW for. Our approach is designed to take away much of the intimidation and judgement that can make traditional gym environments difficult. You don’t need to change who you are to fit into AW. We’ll meet you where you are and help you build from there.
