SOPHIA - TEACHER

“Yoga has been a surprising love story for me. I began practising ten years ago and - as someone who was usually able to take to a new form of sport or exercise quite easily - was shocked that I was really quite terrible at it. Nonetheless, I noticed that my overall fitness and health very quickly improved, and so I continued.

I have been incredibly fortunate to have had a handful of really influential yoga teachers (yes, including Adriene on YouTube!) over the past decade who have helped me to find ways that my body feels happiest moving. In speaking to one yoga teacher about the lack of representation of people of colour in yoga teaching - along with seeing how important yoga has been for my physical and mental health - I decided to take the leap and train, and have since gained a 200 hour qualification, plus a 30 hour yin qualification and an introductory qualification in counselling.

I teach in a way that gives you time and space to explore your body and different forms of movement, with an emphasis on breathwork. Yoga has been incredibly important for me as I’ve learned to manage complex PTSD and an immune disorder, and I teach in a trauma-informed way where all bodies are welcome. Importantly, I feel that having fun is an important part of exercise so, to take the words of a client at a charity that I volunteer at, you can expect a “zazzy” class.”
